Facelift
The effects of gravity on the appearance of the face are variable but unrelenting. In addition, sun, tobacco, and wind can have effect in the development of lax skin and wrinkles. Change in the form and position of the facial bones and loss of fat also contribute to producing the visual changes associated with aging. For many patients the energy and the vitality they feel does not match the apparent age of the reflected image in the mirror. The facelift procedure, which was initially done over two generations ago, has been greatly improved in that time. It is now customized for all the variations of aging patterns that have developed. It runs the gamut from the mini facelift for the patient with limited evidence of facial aging to the patient who would best be served with a full facelift. The facelift is often times accomplished with both upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) as well as a brow lift to gain a more harmonious outcome. With today's facelift, the deep tissues are tightened as well as the skin, and the fat sculptured, removed or rearranged to restore a more youthful appearance to the face and neck. Harvesting fat utilizing liposuction techniques and transferring it to the facial area to replace the fullness lost to aging is often performed.
